Historical Information :
The tiara was created in 1886 using diamonds and pearls for Queen Maria Christina of Spain. In 1929, King Alfonso XIII of Spain inherited the tiara and gave it to his daughter-in-law, Princess Maria Mercedes as a wedding gift in 1935. Two Queens of Spain become the future wearers of the tiara, Queen Sofia and Queen Letizia of Spain.
