The tiara was created in 1913 for Queen Mary with the same design as the tiara owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge. HM The Queen Elizabeth II inherited the tiara in 1953 and gave the tiara to her daughter-in-law, Princess Diana in 1981. The tiara was given back to HM The Queen by Lady Diana after her divorce in 1995. The tiara is one of the favourites of Duchess of Cambridge.
